Ben's Band Biography wah.. it is finally over.. not tt i'm rejoicing or anything.. but the long awaited time is here.. for a long time i wanted to reflect on my band "career".. but i wanted to look for the right time.. i guess this time should be quite appropriate.. first thing firsts.. the concert. yes.. the esplanade concert. it was a great showcase of our talents, skills and unity. wow.. i'm sure the audience was awed by the perform put up by both the band and CO.. i enjoyed myself very much. especially during rehearsals at backstage.. when the camera juz slips out of my pocket.. and poof.. fun.. i also enjoyed the concert. though i was performing, not watching. but i enjoyed playing. at the same time providing entertainment to those who came up with the $15/$20. yes. they deserve it. well, this applies to all of my concert. music is entertainment. At the end of the concert, especially after the combine, the CO conductor invited us to stand. I held my head up high. proud of what i juz accomplished as the spot lights continue to shine down at me. Wad shook me was the raptuous response from the crowd. it blew me. whoosh. while everybody was leaving, we cheered on stage. so called the aj spirit. there were even shouts for encore. but the lights juz dimmed off.. anti - climax ? haha.. the feeling is almost similar as last yr.. also at esplanade.. but this yr seems a little different. U would be thinking. this is like the end of ur band career. as in the non - professional kind. how often u wld hav a grp ppl who take time off their studies and come together to string a simple piece of music? hardwork i would say. yes. these small little details should not be taken for granted. A band is not juz made up of music instruments and scores. but more importantly, the people. how hav i forged such close friendships with the people in the band over the past 1 yr or so should not be taken for granted. down the road, i will still remember them. further down the road. i may forget them should my memory fail me. but the photos will surely be a useful tool to remind me wad friends are for and how we hav overcomed obstacles together. in times of high and low. ok. there was this night i was looking through the photos in SJI. i muz thank my parents who came for almost every event and took photos for me. i din hav a digi cam then.. =p. i hav now put all the sji photos together and i intend to hav a bigger album to put all the band photos.. there is even photos of my first public performance at tpy, istana, sji auditorium.. national day parades, investitures. so many. important events in my band career. one thing is that i did not intend to join band at first. i was rather sporty. still am.. but .. i went for table tennis and soccer trials and CMI. lol. so i decided to join a uniform group.. which shall it be? i chose band. i had music background. simple as that. i muz thank the seniors, conductors and peers who hav helped me develop this musical talent. i first started out as a trumpeter. though i was transferred to eupho in sec 3. i believe that my first 2 yrs was not wasted as.. now.. i can read both treble and bass clef. code switch u noe.. haha. and i can pitch much higher.. and i got more air.. so it was definitely good prac.. ok how shall i end this? is getting rather lengthly.. u prob be sleeping now. but ok.. reflections on the future.. regarding band.. ok.. i intend to get into SAF band.. the main reason is not to slack. but is sort of a national euphonium player u noe.. getting to play the national anthem at the kallang stadium every NDP for the President. great! besides.. their uniform is smart looking and military bands do not harm me.. the 2 yrs there juz builds on the 4 yrs experience in SJI. hhaha ok.. then if the uni i go to has band.. i join again.. when i''m working i go to join outside part time band. i shall take any opportunities to join band. for now , though is to hang up my euphonium for awhile and concentrate on my studies.. =D thanks for listening.. tune in nxt time.. wow.. i took half an hour only.. Chinese yay.. i'm a chinese.. though i may not speak so fluently in it.. 2 things happened today.. one during break.. i played Chinese Chess with JJ.. the pro.. haha.. some ppl shocked tt i knew how to play. then after tt at lunch time.. ppl shocked tt i used Chopsticks.. diao.. haha.. proud to be CHinese .! Kenny Rogers OH man.. had dinner at Kenny Rogers.. with Van , Doro , Jo and YJ.. i reached suntec at 9.15 PM.. i rushed there as fast as possible.. realised CIty Link is juz like a hidden city underground lor.. the only great thing is that i din get lost.. yay.. ok.. back to the point.. the 3 girls were already there.. had eaten finish.. some chicken wings i think.. not sure.. i ordered 2 side dishes for myself.. and they ordered another large sidedish.. the cheesy pasta.. haha nice.. =pp .. well they left 2 pieces of chicken wings for me.. when i ate finished, they claimed that they had stepped on it.. =x haa. wateva. chew it down.. yum.. oh ya.. the chicken wings came with something extra.. other customers din get it.. ya so YJ came later.. then Doro left earlier.. we when to walk at the fountain there.. after it closed.. diao.. ok.. tt's good.. if it was still flowing.. we would hav drowned.. haha ok.. walked till 10 plus then left liao.. had a great time.. oh ya.. did i mention something ? PURPOSE : celebrate end of Term 2 CTS.... hhaha taking the chance to celebrate something.. SYF 2005 finally.. our competition has ended... we got a silver? disappointed? yes.. to a certain extent. But we should be happy. To be disappointed with a silver is a good point. I wouldn't see myself aiming for a gold or believing a could actually have a chance of obtaining a gold in the beginning of the year. To see ppl crying and seeing a missed opportunity certainly supports the point. sadistic it may sound. Shows that we feel tt we could have done much much better and show that our hardwork has not gone to waste. We hav improved tremendously over the past few months and i must say that under the stewardship and guidance of Mr sukit and the rest of the conductors. i believe that AJCSB will be a gold band in time to come. Of course, we can take this as an experience. and we must learn that is not the practise that counts but also rising up to occasions and playing ur hearts out. Whatever the result, we can safely say that we are a good band.. and to be judged on 2 songs in 15 mins is never gonna be justified. yea.. congrats AJCSB! Track and Field Meet 2005 Finally.. i have the time to reflect on this event.. Sooner or later i think i muz do a reflection. hah.. might as well do first.. then can copy and paste.. ok.. initial thoughts.. the event have certainly changed my perspective of looking at a cone.. Initially, i thought it was juz for a soccer goalpost or used at a construction site. Now, i will think of the Inter-Cca novelty race when i see it. I remember during the process of planning.. i kept noticing that there were cones everywhere in Singapore. Never had i noticed so much the cones around Singapore. On a serious note, this event has helped me learn how to cope with time allocation and go in depth of what is planning all about. It is not just about planning a timetable, but it is also about meeting the deadline. Of course, there were problems encountered in any case of planning. My main problem was the communication to the CCAs. Some CCAs did not get the instruction sheet, some never hand back the reply slip. Worse still, those that signed up for the heats did not turn up. On the heats day itself, u think that it made your job easier by handling problems. But there's a bigger picture and problem when u realise that no teams are gonna qualify for the finals. Luckily, most teams turned up for the second heats. And you must know when to be flexible, whether to allow them to postpone or not. Till the final day, I thought that was the last of my problems. But, no. The teams almost did not report to the competitor steward. Had to make announcements several times.. Luckily managed to get my briefing across and lead the teams to the field. Job almost done. At the end of the staff race, it was time for my show. The gun fired. The race started. I ran across the field several times. Checking with the teams and Timers. Seeing the crowd enjoying the race, I felt so happy that the race is a success. I'm sure they will remember the race, especially the participants. Sports Update Wahaha.. so happy! something concerning sports.. last friday was Track and Field Meet.. no. i din win an event.. well.. i had a part of organising in it.. it was a sucess.. yay! Basically, me and Jo were the organisers of the inter cca novelty race.. seeing the response from the audience.. i'm sure the people enjoyed watching the poeple playing the game. i shall post the relfection another day.. no time.. sat.. i woke up at 8am.. after sleeping at 8pm the night before.. went for band.. slept in the afternoon.. 3 to 5.. too energetic.. went to exercise.. jogged my favourite 4.0 km.. i beat my previous record.. 22:09 by 2 seconds.. 22:07.. yay.. hahha.. then went swimming.. 4 laps.. then play soccer.. wah.. so fun!.. i wish can do this everyday.. if there's time and energy.. haha.. maybe juz weekends.. | ||
